Police Officer Struck and Thrown By Car It was about 6:00 PM on a dark and rainy Friday night on February 8, 2008 in downtown Bellevue, Washington. There was a small car fire in the parking lot of Lakeshore Learning Center and the traffic motorcycle officer assisted the fire department with traffic control. While he was directing cars, a red 2008 Audi TT going east bound on NE 4 ST struck him in between 110 AVE NE and 112 AVE NE. He was apparently, ". . . thrown over the hood and into the street," said Public Information Officer, Greg Grannis. The 75 year old driver stopped and is fully cooperating with the Bellevue Police Department. The driver did not appear to be intoxicated. The Officer was rushed to Overlake Hospital were he had surgery to mend a broken leg and is expected to recover. This happened right outside Bellevue City Hall. The road was obviously closed for a while. NOTE: I believe at first, they thought there was an officer down, one journalist told me. Unfortunately, I missed the very first part of the dispatch, so I wasn't exactly sure what happened, but I had a few ideas :) I'm just really glad the officer is going to be OK. ANOTHER NOTE: at 0:14-0:29 an officer accidentally let me get close to the crime scene and I was called back shortly after that. And at 1:54-2:21 I was talking on the phone with either KING 5 or Q 13 FOX News. It was really hard talking on the phone, manning the camera, and holding up my umbrella (I have yet to get a camera rain coat). Plus, the auto-focus on my camera was screwing up because it was dark and rainy, so I had to continually use manual focus. So it was not easy :) PERSONAL NOTE: I sold this footage to KIRO 7 for $100. I was going to sell footage to KOMO 4; I even allowed them to record my footage in their van, but they didn't have any video release forms with them so they told me to go to the station. When I got there, the news assignment person told me by phone that she talked to the news crew and they decided they were not going to use it, so they were not going to pay me. Needless to say: I was not happy with them. I told the KOMO news desk by phone that they wasted my time. I do not mind if they don't want or need my footage, but I felt like they used me. I learned a lesson that night: don't trust someone's word, get the money first . . . there, I'm done venting, lol News Links: http://www.bellevuewa.gov/officer_struck.htm http://beat.downtownbellevue.com/2008/02/police-officer-struck-by-car-friday.html http://www.king5.com/localnews/stories/NW_020808WAB_bellevue_officer_injured_TP.a2ed5b81.html http://www.komotv.com/news/local/15467021.html http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2004174297_officerhurt09m.html http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/350850_bellevue12.html bellevue police officer hit by car involved city hall accident downtown investigation news journalism barricade driving |

Special Ops Training for Sheriff Department On February 6, 2008, at the Bellevue Police (and Fire) Training Center (at 1838 116th Ave NE) the King County Sheriff SWAT Team and helicopter, Guardian One, did routine training. With guns in hand and wearing full body-armor, SWAT members repelled from the helicopter with ropes onto a training building which is probably about five stories up. I was about level with the top of the building and about 100 yards away. It was very loud and amazing to see in person. Related Links: http://www.crimeweb.net/details.asp?id=11531 http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2002356419_helicopter03m.html (a news story about Guardian One) http://www.metrokc.gov/sheriff/what/specialized_services/swat.aspx (King County SWAT team info) NOTE: sorry I did not get better shots. I was in the middle of something and did not have time to go down to the training center for a better view (I don't know if they would have let me pass the gate or not). Maybe next time :) SOME PEOPLE HAVE CONTACTED ME THINKING I WAS HIDING BEHIND TREES, but I was not. There just happened to be lots of tree in between the training center and the parking-lot I was filming from. Furthermore, I DID NOT TRESPASS any property to videotape this. Another NOTE: this might be Guardian Two (as one youtuber brought up in the comments) because Guardian One does not have any hoists on it. Last Updated: February 23, 2008 anti-terrorism S.W.A.T. Radio Chatter: WSP Respond to Avalanche at Snoqualmie Pass On January 30, 2008, an avalanche of snow came down on to Interstate 90 in Snoqualmie Pass (which is part of the Cascade Mountains). Rescue teams worked to find survivors. It was later discovered that no one was seriously hurt, even though a few vehicles were buried. Washington State Department of Transportation and State Patrol then shut down I-90 because of the avalanche danger and hazardous road conditions. This closure caused many companies to loose money because truckers either had to wait it out or take a long alternative route. If I remember right, this was (one of) the biggest avalanches Snoqualmie Pass ever had. WSP District 2 uses 155.580 MHz (100.0 PL) for their main dispatch. Key Points: 0:00 (I started recording a few minutes after the first call out) 2:40 (a trooper says he sees a car in the snow) 5:40 (a trooper says they have to get the media helicopters out of the area because of the their sound and the avalanche danger) 6:30 (the dispatcher gives a summery of events) News Links: http://www.king5.com/topstories/stories/NW_020108WAB_I90_avalanche_LJ.7c42c2dd.html http://www.komotv.com/news/local/15124461.html http://www.kirotv.com/news/15193657/detail.html http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/transportation/349684_pass02.html?source=mypi http://www.tri-cityherald.com/1154/story/76519.html http://news.columbian.com/news/state/APStories/AP01302008news270646.cfm http://www.komotv.com/news/local/14762927.html http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/traffic/passes/snoqualmie/ This was captured with a police scanner and recorded with "Scanner Recorder" free software. Bus Spun-out in Snow On January 28, 2008 at about 1:00 PM, the route 222 Metro bus lost control and slid out on an icy road in the Eastgate neighborhood on the south end of Bellevue, WA. This winter storm caused many traffic accidents because of western Washington's hilly terrain. However, road crews did their best to sand, plow, and deice the Puget Sound area. Most schools were canceled. Note: I just happened by chance upon this accident, but there were many others I heard on my scanner. I can't really figure out why the bus was stuck or why it slid out there. You notice there appears to be a dry spot under his rear tires. And there is no major incline at that particular place in the road . . . hmmmmm, maybe I should have asked the driver what happened, but I had a feeling he was not having a good day and decided to leave that one a mystery :) (I'm not trying to imply the bus driver is a bad driver.) Fatal Ax: Car Goes Wrongway on I-405, Killing Two At about 7:50 PM on January 11, 2008, a white Honda Civic turned south onto northbound I-405 from NE 6th Street. Shortly after, it stuck an oncoming Ford Escape (roughly at NE 2 St, near the NE 4 St exit). The two males in the Honda died instantly and the 21 year-old female driving the SUV was rushed to the hospital after being extricated with some broken bones; she was rushed to Harborview Hospital and is expected to live. All lanes of interstate 405 were closed for over an hour while Washington State Patrol investigated the accident. Both vehicles were going approximately 60 MPH at the time of the crash. WSP is not sure at this time (1/11/08) what caused the driver of the white car to go the wrong way, but they say alcohol or drugs might have been a factor. Pedestrian Hit by Car in Crossroads At about 9:30 PM on January 12, 2008, a pedestrian was hit in the Crossroads area of Bellevue WA. Fire, aid, and police responded to the 1600 block of 156 Ave NE. I believe the female patient may have been taken to Harborview or Overlake Hospital in Seattle. Her condition and the driver's responsibility in the accident are unknown to me. The northbound lanes of 156th was closed for a while. There was a marked pedestrian cross walk where this occurred, though unknown if the yellow caution lights available were in use when this occurred. Personal Note: I decided to post this mainly because the police car responding at the beginning was cool. I didn't film too much at the scene because it did not seem like there was much of a story and I got the feeling that this was an innocent accident (though I am just saying that from observation; I do not know if the driver was guilty of a crime or not). One more thing, you would be surprised how common pedestrian accidents are, so be sure to watch those cars out there. pedestrian hit collision car hospital emergency ford crown victoria code three lights sirens Polizei polizia policía 警察 |

Metro Bus Fire on 520 (with Fire Radio) At about 2:17 PM on January 7, 2008, a Bellevue police officer came across a full size (articulated) King County Metro bus that was on fire. It was "fully involved," according to the dispatcher. Bellevue Fire responded to the event and extinguished it. Specifically, light-force 7 and engine 6 responded. It was confined primarily to the engine and the back of the bus. No one was hurt. All lanes of eastbound 520 near 124 Ave NE were closed/blocked for a short time. Two Washington state department of transpiration WSDOT Incident Response Team vehicles responded, along with Washington State Patrol. Robber's Nice Getaway Car Doesn't Help Him This bank robber's shiny new BMW 3 series (possibly a 2005 BMW E46 330ci) did not help him escape the law and Bellevue Police. BPD took a male suspect into custody with guns drawn after he robbed the Washington Mutual Bank in downtown Bellevue, WA on New Years Eve 2007 (December 31, 2007) at about 12:23 PM. The Wamu bank is located at 10550 NE 8th St. Apparently, after the 23 year-old man from Kirkland took the money from the teller using a note, as he ran north to his vehicle parked in the Bellevue Place parking lot, the dye pack inside the money bag exploded, covering him in red and sending money flying everywhere. By chance, plainclothes/off-duty police officer, Tory Mangione, was driving in an unmarked car (the white one on the curb) in the area and happened to notice the suspect covered in red and his suspicious behavior. He did not have a radio, so he was not totally sure what was happening, but he detained the suspect until other units arrived. Patrol units were there within a couple of minutes after the call went out on the radio over BPD's Emergency channel. No one was hurt. $1,500 was recovered by police. Witnesses identified the suspect as robber in the bank. A detective was called to the scene. Unknown if the car was actually owned by the suspect. The Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) took over the investigation. In this video, at about 1:00, I think they were talking about the news cameras. Note: a KIRO 7 cameraman was on scene. I did not receive a call back from any of the local Seattle stations saying they were interested in my footage. The "Downtown Bellevue Network" did post some of the pictures I sent them of the event and linked up this Youtube video to their website: http://beat.downtownbellevue.com/2007/12/attempted-downtown-bellevue-bank.html So i was pretty happy about that :) new year eve bank robbery Federal Bureau Investigation FBI washington mutual media news wamu BMW beemer bimmer 경찰 |

Rite Aid Robbed with Gun At 12:30 AM on December 16, 2007, the Factoria Rite Aid (Pharmacy / Drugstore) was robbed at gun point in Bellevue, Washington (in the United States of America). After displaying a realistic fake gun, the suspect used a "poorly written" note, according to BPD, to say he wanted the addictive prescription pain medicine, OxyContin. Employs called 911 after the man left and officers responded quickly. They located a potential suspect at the near the Brown Bear Carwash across the street and tried confronting the man, but he took off. They chased him on foot up toward the T-Mobile and "tackled him". The suspect tried to ditch the stolen goods, but units recovered all of it along with the apparent weapon, which was really an air pistol. "The suspect was . . . booked into the King County Jail on suspicion of first-degree armed robbery. The case was referred to the King County Prosecutor" (BPD News Release: Police catch suspect in prescription drug theft). The specific location of this is at 4100 Factoria Blvd SE. A total of 15 officers responded to this call. News Link (and source): http://www.ci.bellevue.wa.us/prescription_drug_theft.htm Note: audio is edited (meaning some transitions are taken out). And also, some of you may notice glitches in this video. My editing program has been acting funny lately. Personal Note: KOMO 4 purchased this footage from me, but when they broadcasted it, they did not get all the details right. For example, K9 never came into the area (before the suspect was already in custody). Another thing, Bellevue Police, as always, did a great job! Extremely professional. And contrary to what some of you may thing watching my videos, crime in Bellevue is very low (it's one of the safest cities for its size on the west coast of the United States). strong arm gun firearm robbery rite aid Factoria Bellevue police foot pursuit chase running suspect pharmacy 罪行 US 범죄 |

Business Robbed with Knife At about 8:00 PM on December 14, 2007, a man covering his face with the hood of his jacket told the female employ working at Tropical Tan that he had a knife and to give him all the money. She did this and I do not know how much was taken. This happened in north Bellevue at 14100 NE 20 st. Bellevue Police responded and set up a perimeter around the robbery, hoping to get the guy. Both Bellevue K9 units were training in Seattle, so a King County Sheriff K9 was called out. However, they were still unable to track the guy and he got away (at least right now to my knowledge). They'll find the robber eventually and he will likely be charged with this strong-arm robbery. Bellevue Crime Map for December 14, 2007: http://www.bellevuewa.gov/crimemap/dailyCrimeMap.aspx?CrimeDate=2/14/2008&timeSpan=d&crimeType=All Personal note: I called all the stations (KIRO 7, KING 5, KOMO 4, Q 13) and non wanted to buy the footage. I expected that, but I didn't think it would hurt to try. And you never know, it could be worth something in the future. For example, this could be the start of a serial bank robber in Bellevue and I got his first robbery documented. Then it will be worth something. Plus, BPD had a lot of action that day (no real news worthy events, but really exciting ones), and I finally got tired of missing out on the action LOL (the "action" on camera I mean). In addition, this was the first chance I've gotten in a while to do this. Note: the police radio audio is edited, meaning that there was a lot more said, but I left that out. knife strong arm robbery holdup blade weapon money stole police Bellevue dog 911 King County sheriff k9 radio полиции |

Police Scanner: Uniden Bearcat BCD396T The Uniden BCD396T is my favorite police scanner. It can be controlled by a computer and is capable of just about anything (it seems). Having the capability of hooking up a scanner to a PC makes it a lot easier to upload new frequencies to it. Another thing I love about new scanners like this, in addition to its dynamic allocated channel memory, is that you can title (or text tag) frequencies and talk groups. So instead of seeing 155.580 MHz, you can make it say "Seattle WSP Disp" under the group "West WSP" and the system "WA State Gov." It has 100 quick keys for systems and 10 for each group in the system. It is preprogrammed with 12 service searches that are actually up-to-date: ". . . Public Safety, News, HAM Radio, Marine, Railroad, Air, CB Radio, FRS/GMRS, Racing, TV Broadcast, FM Broadcast, and Special searches. . ." (BCD396T Manual). It of course has CTCSS and DCS squelch modes. In addition, the analog and digital audio AGC makes it nicer to listen to than most scanners (because the volume stays generally level no matter what channel). The fire tone-out standby feature is interesting, but I never got that to work. The trunk tracker IV allows the scanner to follow, ". . . unencrypted conversations on analog Motorola, Motorola Astro 25 (APCO 25), EDACS, EDACS SCAT, and LTR trunked radio systems, including systems in VHF, UHF, 700 MHz, 800 MHz, and 900 MHz bands. The scanner can scan both conventional and trunked systems at the same time" (BCD396T Manual). Also with this scanner, you only have to input the control channel of trunked Motorola systems (not the other voice channels). It has a frequency step of 5, 6.25, 7.5, 8.33, 10, 12.5,15, 20, 25, 50 or 100 kHz depending on what you prefer. There are so many things you can do to customize this scanner that I don't have room to write them all in this description. But if you are going to get this, you got to save up: they usually cost around $500. BCD396T information can be found at http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/BCD396T Memory: 400 systems (20 groups per system and/or 200 channels per trunked system) Up to 6,000 channels Frequency Coverage: About 25MHz to 1.3Ghz OR 25.0000 - 27.9950 MHz (5.0 kHz steps) 28.0000 - 29.6800 MHz (20.0 kHz steps) 29.7000 - 49.9900 MHz (10.0 kHz steps) 50.0000 - 53.9800 MHz (20.0 kHz steps) 54.0000 - 71.9500 MHz (50.0 kHz steps) 72.0000 - 75.9950 MHz (5.0 kHz steps) 76.0000 - 87.9500 MHz (50.0 kHz steps) 88.0000 - 107.9000 MHz (100.0 kHz steps) 108.0000 - 136.9750 MHz (25.0 kHz steps) 137.0000 - 143.9875 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 144.0000 - 147.9950 MHz (5.0 kHz steps) 148.0000 - 150.7875 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 150.8000 - 161.9950 MHz (5.0 kHz steps) 162.0000 - 173.9875 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 174.0000 - 215.9500 MHz (50.0 kHz steps) 216.0000 - 224.9800 MHz (20.0 kHz steps) 225.0000 - 399.9500 MHz (50.0 kHz steps) 400.0000 - 512.0000 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 764.0000 - 775.9875 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 794.0000 - 805.9875 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 806.0000 - 823.9875 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 849.0125 - 868.9875 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 894.0125 - 956.0000 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 1240.0000 - 1300.0000 MHz (25.0 kHz steps) Scan Rate: 100 channels per second (conventional mode) Search Rate: 300 steps per second (5 kHz step only) Size: 2.40 in. Radio Shack Scanner: Pro-91 The RS Pro-91 is one of my older, but reliable, police scanners. It is capable of trunking and can store 150 channels. Overall, this is one tough scanner; even though I have dropped it many times, gotten it soaking wet, and left it in my car with the outside temperature being over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, it has always worked perfectly (except it sometimes says "low battery" when the batter is not actually low). The Pro-91 is, ". . . designed to track Motorola Type I and Type II (such as Smartnet and Privacy Plus) and hybrid analog trunking systems, which are extensively used in many 800 MHz communication systems" (Pro-91 Manual). It has 5 storage banks that hold 30 frequencies each. It also has a backlight that stays on for about 15 seconds at a time. I think when I got this a few years ago, it cost $150. Pro-91 information can be found at: http://support.radioshack.com/support_electronics/46694.htm http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/Pro-91 Frequency coverage is: 29.0000 - 54.0000 MHz (5 kHz steps) 108.0000 - 136.9750 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 137.0000 - 174.0000 MHz (5 kHz steps) 406.0000 - 512.0000 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 806.0000 - 823.93750 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 851.0000 - 868.9875 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) 896.1125 - 956.0000 MHz (12.5 kHz steps) Scan Speed: 50 channels per second Search Speed: Normal: 100 Steps per Second Hypersearch: 300 Steps per Second Service: 50 Frequencies per Second Size: 61/4 in. Scanner Antenna This a VHF-Hi/UHF Outdoor Scanner Antenna by RadioShack ( http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2103641&cp=2032052.2032075.2032078.2032098&parentPage=family ). The antenna is about 20 inches long. It is almost 30 feet above the ground. The pole is actually a sailboarding mast; an acquaintance of mine broke the pole at the bottom and gave it to me, so I just sawed the bad part off. I get very good reception with it. However, it sometimes receives too well and picks up interference on some channels. All in all though, it is a very good addition to any police scanner. I can listen to communications from five counties! The BNC outlet was bought off eBay. At the beginning of the video, I used my little old Uniden FRS400 to make a creative introduction. The scanner you see at the end of the video is a Uniden BCD396T Trunktracker IV ( http://www.uniden.com/products/productdetail.cfm?product=BCD396T&filter=Handheld ). I also have an RS Pro-91, which is why I have two BNC cords hooked up to the antenna. Note: the reason I have it black & white and high contrast at 0:57-1:00 is because I did not want to show my house, but at the same time, I wanted people to view the full size of the pole. radio antenna scanner monitor ham cb frs gmrs amateur Uniden shack 396 police fire aid frequency trunk megahertz Hz MHz |

Seattle Police Department Career Fair October 13, 2007 The Seattle Police Department (Washington, USA) had a career fair hoping to get some new recruits. They showed off all cool stuff, such as their SWAT vehicles, bomb squad equipment, marine patrol boats, horses (which are used for crowd control), traffic motorcycles, one of the Dodge Chargers, parking enforcement unit, crime scene investigation unit (CSI), and they had some great food! There were nice recruiting officers talked about career opportunities and gave out free stuff with the SPD logo on it. The SPD needs to hire a lot of cops, so if you are interested, go to http://seattle.gov/police/ or http://www.cityofseattle.net/police/jobs/ Note: this video was not in any way made or uploaded with the Seattle Police Department's knowledge (meaning: these are just some pictures I took there). seattle police department SPD S.W.A.T. dodge charger cop job career hiring bike patrol law enforcement detective justic |

Police Respond to Theft with a Knife This was on October 25, 2007 at about 5:00 PM in Bellevue (Factoria), Washington. The original call (with tones) went out like this: a theft occurred at the Factoria Mall Target with a knife. Target security was the caller. They followed the young male suspect to Old Country Buffet where he appeared to be eating with three females. As you can see, lots of units responded (including one traffic unit) and the main air was closed, but the dispatcher soon learned that there was no actual threat made; the suspect merely opened a package with a razor blade to shoplift what was inside of it. Apparently, he left the store without knowing that security was watching him the whole time. Police turned off sirens when they got really close and parked a little away from the restaurant so not to let the suspect know he was about to be caught. I think police arrested the kid. I just stuck around to see if the he would run; and when he didn't, I left. Not a big story, but from how the original call went out, it appeared to be. I decided to post the total raw footage just to change things up a little :) security target factoria mall police radio scanner codes knife theft robbery steal shoplift bellevue dispatch dispatche |

Car Drives into Store Front Injuring One On September 28, 2007 at around 5:00 PM in Bellevue (WA) at the Factoria Square Mall, a woman drove her car through TJ Maxx store entrance injuring a teenage girl. Apparently, this occurred when the driver (who had a passenger in the car with her) wanted to get the best parking place before another driver, and gunned it. Except the car didn't stop (she possibly mistook the accelerator for the brake). The car traveled over 30 ft from the parking place before it came to a stop inside the store. The girl had minor injuries. Police say that the driver may have been under the influence of something. The 37 year old Bellevue women was arrested for DUI. Personal Note: I made $250 that Friday night. I got interviewed for KIRO TV. And I got the exclusive up close shots. I was sitting on the east side of Factoria when this happened listening to my police scanner (the accident happened on the west side), so I was able to get there really fast, before they were able to tape everything off. I sold this footage to KOMO 4 and KIRO TV. At one point, I had all the stations lined up to buy, but Q 13 and King 5 went back on their word when I got to Seattle. Oh well, that's business. At least I got to film inside the King 5 van. Glad no one died; this could have been a lot worse.
