What is the howling sound coming from the Cicadas?
We keep seeing them intermittenly around here (NW Indiana) and they will fly right up to you and land on you just as if you were a tree. Every morning though, there is a very long and loud howling sounds that come from them from Dawn to about 10 am. I know its the Cicada because it didn't happen until about a week and half ago.

i have the game legend of zelda twilight princess and i found one of the howling stones. i have a game walkthrough that said that i need to get the ability from that stone. for some reason when i walk up to the stone as the wolf it doesnt give me the option to listen so i can howl. what am i supposed to do?

How do i stop my puppy rottweiler from howling at night and when i have to go out without her?
I've had my puppy only a few days and she howls all night and my neighbours said when i went grocery shopping for an hour she constantly howled. She wasnt really complaining, just letting me know but if she keeps doing this im worried they will start to complain. i wouldnt blame them if they did, shes very noisy. Is there something i could be doing to control the howling. she has plenty of toys to play with.

How do I get my dog to stop howling when I leave?
2-year old female Australian Shepherd mix. We used to have 2, but the other (older dog) died, leaving this one. Even before Shela died, Tess would howl (sounds like- yip-oooooo) when my husband and I left... It starts a minute or 2 after we leave, like she waits to make sure we're not comming RIGHTback, and then starts in. When we first got her, we were in a trailer in the middle of nowhere, so the howling wasn't a problem... We didn't even realize she was doing it till we went from a short (under 5 minutes) walk and heard her. Since then, we've lived in a house where she had to be outside. There, we had much less contact with her, so the issue wasn't such a big one. We've recently moved again, to an apartment- lots of neighbors, really close, shared walls.... Even though there's no legal issues, the neighbors are complaining to the landlord. I think she only does this for a short time after we leave, but I'm not sure. When I come home after more than 45 minutes or so... she's absolutely silent. My husband tried a bark collar- he had it so tight against her neck that it was choking her- when she'd cough it would go off... but not when she howled. In any case, I need to figure out a way to make sure she doesn't howl (at ALL!)when we're gone. Some may suggest trading her in for a cat- I'm allergic to cats.... and I'm not into self-inflicted cases of hives, itching, sneezing, etc, so that's really a non-answer. I'm not above surgery, training, etc, but any information or suggestions on how, where, costs, etc would be helpful. Note- And don't say surgery is cruel, cuz that's just ignorant, and you WON'T get Best. The options are either she stops howling or she finds another home. No matter where we live, she'll need to be broken of this habit.

Do you think playing a radio will help the beagle calm down with the howling, or possibly puppy camp so it?
wont be left alone while we are away? It is the best dog ever, we live in a quiet home, it has adjusted to the quietness believe it or not he is almost part of the family now, when we nap or sleep he settles right in, ha!!!!!!!!

Is the howling noise from those whistling NERF footballs one of the most intimidating noises ever?
I mean, when you hear one of those babys flyin thru the air, its immediatelly "look around everywhere like an idiot so you dont get pegged in the face". I just get a kick out of em and wanted to see what other people thought.

Do bark collars for dogs work for howling/whining?
My new dog was adopted today. A little sweetheart. Perhaps a little too sweet. Everytime he's left alone, even when I go on the front porch for a smoke, he starts whining and howling. I Know that there are anti-bark collars available, but do that work for howling? Whining isn't so bad cuz the neihbours can't hear it, but the howling will be a problem. I dont want to use the shock collars, but I've heard about citronella collars that might work. They spray citronella in front of the dogs face when they bark, so it doesn't hurt them, just bugs them a bit. But I want to make sure it'll work for howling. So do they work for howling, and where's the cheapest one I can get online? The place to find one is just as imporant to me as knowing if they work. THANKS!!!

When is our new puppy going to stop whining/howling so that the neighbors will stop complaining?
We brought home a 3 month old husky/shepherd mix on Saturday. The dog is very friendly; however, when we put him outside, he's fine for a while then starts this blood-curdling howling/whining that drives the neighbors nuts. I put a bark collar on him (the type that sprays a lemon scent at his snout when he barks), but I don't think that the whining/howling is enough to trigger it. Will the dog eventually stop doing this? Is this normal? I know you're not supposed to respond to the howling, because the dog will learn that he can get attention that way. But at the same time, I cannot let him continue to make all that noise outside, so I end up bringing him back inside. HELP!!! He sleeps in the house. He whines for awhile, then stops. I'm hoping that he will eventually quit whining outside as well. We got the "spray-type" bark collar because we already have a "shock" collar for the invisible fence, and we don't want the dog to be confused. I just called my wife, and she told me that his howling has stopped - for the moment. I hope it stays that way.
